**Compensation Range for This Position Is $115,000 - $125,000

Mercy Ships is seeking a Director of Technical Operations (Marine) to serve on-site at our International Headquarters in Lindale, Texas. In this position you'll have the opportunity to support the International Programs Department initiatives of Mercy Ships to ensure continued delivery of hope to those in need through direction and coordination of Marine Operations Department technical operations.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Support the vessel technical superintendents in areas of maintenance and planning.
  • Support the procurement manager and agents.
  • Support the annual maintenance phase of company vessels.
  • Monitor routine and corrective maintenance onboard company vessels.
  • Maintain records of technical expenses for each vessel and plan annual budgets.
  • Support and improve maintenance procedures, procurement procedures & training for company staff.
  • Develop and maintain class, yard and vendor relationships.
  • Attend relevant Trade shows and exhibits from time to time.
  • Visit each company vessel annually.
  • Serve as a member of management committees on special studies.
  • Participate in meetings as directed by the VP of Marine Operations for example PIT & Management meetings.
  • Monitor classification requirements for company vessels.
  • Review and advise on qualifications of technical staff and/or applicants as requested, including department head reviews.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of the company SMS; and support the Director of Nautical Operations to ensure safe working practices are followed on company vessel.
  • Travel Requirement: Approximately15 - 25% Domestic and International travel anticipated annually.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, contractors, suppliers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Certificate of Competency in accordance with STCW III/2; Chief Engineer preferred.
  • Experience as 'Port Engineer' or 'Technical Superintendent' strongly preferred.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) from four-year College or University; or four years related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
