Summary:  Coordinate clinical care for the Orthopedic surgery patient population throughout course of care with Mercy Ships

For patients with club feet, bowed legs, and other orthopaedic conditions, Mercy Ships' orthopaedic program and team are there to bring restoration and healing, bringing mobility to patients, and training to local professionals to ensure continued care.

The Ward Nurse Orthopaedic Team Leader volunteer position, part of the Ward, will be located on the Africa Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship. The preferred minimum time commitment for this role is three months. We recommend all interested applicants to submit an application at least six months in advance of your target service date. Commitments longer than ten months require successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program.

Qualifications Required:

  • Mercy Ships alumni required 
  • Commitments 12 months or longer require successful completion of OnBoarding program
  • Current/active Registered Nurse license
  • Minimum two years experience following licensure
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) are optional
  • Advanced practice preferred but not essential
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Leadership or management experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Fluent in English
  • International Driver's Permit preferred
