Summary:  Responsible for contributing to strategic internal and external communications in support of Mercy Ships. This includes internal communications, and public relations and marketing communications materials for a wide range of communication channels, including Web and print materials, e-mail marketing, press releases and social media.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    • Eloquent story teller – presenting the need of our constituency with dignity.
    • Convey Mercy Ships funding needs in a compelling manner.
    • Write text for marketing projects, such as newsletters, direct mail, ads, and donor letters.
    • Review final marketing materials and social media.
    • Mentor writers onboard the ship, edit patient stories, and post approved stories to Mercy Ships intranet (Navigator). 
    • Provide input regarding writing guidelines and editing processes.
    • Assist in planning marketing projects.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Strong administrative skills and people skills are essential.
    • Proficient computer skills.
    • Exceptionally accurate writing and editing skills, including a thorough understanding of grammar and usage
    • Research skills
    • Must possess a thorough knowledge of English usage and grammar and effective writing skills. Demonstrate good communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Donor centered communications preferred.
    • Supportive of Mercy Ships mission and vision, and committed to its core values.
    • Understand and apply servant leadership, work collaboratively with integrity and demonstrate accountability

Education And Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

    • High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field preferred.
    • One year experience in similar type work and/or one year or more experience with Mercy Ships.
    • Experience working in a non-profit, PR, public affairs or marketing role is preferred.
    • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
