Summary:  Observing and assisting the Agriculture Program Manager to train trainers from partner agencies to develop their own programs for real needs in the area of improved Climate Oriented Agriculture, Food Transformation and Micro-Agriculture.

To truly change the healthcare landscape of Africa, we must get to the source of the problem. Nutrition. Our Agriculture team does just that. Working with partner agencies, the Agriculture Nutrition Facilitator aims to identify nutritional shortcomings and help end them through education and training. While our doctors work to perform as many surgeries as possible, our agriculture team works to ensure none are needed in the future. 

The Agriculture Intern volunteer position, part of the Medical Capacity Building team, will be located on the Africa Mercy and Global Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ships. The preferred minimum time commitment for this role is two years. We recommend all interested applicants to submit an application at least six months in advance of your target service date. Commitments longer than twelve months require successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program.

This position requires living in a land-based team house with other crew members. 

Qualifications Required:

  • Familiarity with sustainable principles in agriculture, gardening and micro agriculture in developing nations
  • Very good understanding of African cultures and high cultural sensitivity
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Fluent in English and French
  • International Driver's Permit required
