Accounting Activities
- Support the month-end close process, including efforts for a ‘quicker monthly close.’
- Interpret financial information and events for users who must make economic or business decisions.
- Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts.
- Provide information to management, staff, and individuals or organizations outside of Mercy Ships as required, i.e., explaining accounting transactions, resolving accounting issues and discrepancies.
- Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, and graphical packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
- Prepare audit work papers for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
- Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
- Look for and implement process improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Financial Planning & Analysis Activities
- Management of the FP&A function including 2 direct reports
- Work in close collaboration with Mercy Ships’ senior leaders (including C-Suite), to formulate the organization’s medium and longer term financial and strategic plans.
- Provision of monthly reporting and analysis packs with accompanying commentary re the financial performance of Mercy Ships
- Consolidate and oversee all aspects of centralized budgeting, long-term planning, financial reporting, analytics, and KPIs.
- Work with dept heads and business leaders to build their budgets and forecasts.
- Analyze financial and operational results to provide meaningful insights into performance.
- Lead educational and transparency initiatives for all financial stakeholders.
- Manage and develop BI tools that can be used by teams across Mercy Ships to provide relevant and timely insights.
- Prepare business cases to support new initiatives and strategies.
- Review processes and procedures to identify and implement improvements.
- Supervise staff in financial planning and analytics team to achieve team goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
