As a Credentialing Manager you will be responsible for developing and leading the credentialing department, ensuring that all staff and volunteer physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. This role involves creating and maintaining standardized and consistent credentialing processes, establishing robust documentation practices, overseeing compliance, and generating insightful reports to support organizational goals. The Credentialing Manager will work collaboratively with medical staff, People and Culture, and leadership teams to foster a culture of excellence, safety, efficiency, and uniformity in credentialing practices across the organization.
How You’ll Contribute
Department Development and Leadership
- Establish and oversee a credentialing team, ensuring appropriate staffing, training, and support.
- Design and implement the structure, policies, and procedures for a robust credentialing department.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for credentialing-related inquiries and issues.
Process Development and Standardization
- Develop and maintain standardized processes for verifying credentials of staff and volunteer physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Establish clear documentation practices to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Design workflows to streamline credentialing and re-credentialing processes, minimizing delays and maximizing efficiency.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all credentialing activities comply with local, national, and international regulations, as applicable, as well as accreditation standards.
- Perform regular audits of credentialing files and processes to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Stay up to date with changes in credentialing laws, regulations, and best practices, and update processes accordingly.
Reporting and Data Management
- Create and manage systems for tracking credentialing data, deadlines, and status updates.
- Generate and analyze reports on credentialing activities, compliance metrics, and team performance.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership to drive continuous improvement.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with P&C, medical staff offices, and leadership teams to align credentialing processes with organizational goals.
- Act as a liaison between the credentialing department and other departments, ensuring smooth communication and operations.
- Engage with external vendors or third-party credentialing services as needed.
Key Tasks and Deliverables
- Develop and implement credentialing policies and procedures.
- Establish a secure and efficient credentialing database or software system.
- Oversee the credentialing of new hires, volunteers, and re-credentialing of existing staff.
- Provide training to the credentialing team and other stakeholders on credentialing practices.
- Handle escalated issues related to credentialing and resolve them in a timely manner.
- Monitor and manage performance of credentialing staff, providing regular feedback and development opportunities.
- Ensure credentialing supports the organization’s strategic initiatives, including volunteer programs and compliance efforts.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Lead or participate in organizational initiatives related to quality improvement, patient safety, or operational efficiency.
- Prepare for and participate in accreditation or regulatory audits.
The Ideal Candidate
- Strong knowledge of credentialing regulations, accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission), and best practices.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Certifications:
- Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) preferred.
Education & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field required.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare credentialing, including management or supervisory roles.
- Proven experience establishing or leading a credentialing department or team.
- Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
