0319 - Systems Engineer

Summary Description

Collaborates in the design of new Information Technology infrastructure solutions and participates in the implementation and testing of the approved solutions. Once the infrastructure solutions are implemented, the Systems Engineer provides on-going support and maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)

• Identify options for potential solutions and assess them for both technical and business suitability
• Create logical and innovative solutions for IT infrastructure including servers, storage, virtualization platforms
• Work closely with other IS staff to ensure technical compatibility and effective integration
• Implement and assess trials and prototypes from concept documentation
• Implement and test production infrastructure from approved designs and deployment plans
• Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot IT infrastructure issues
• Write and maintain documentation including specifications, procedures, and designs
• May be required to provide out-of-hours or on-call support

• Able to contribute to community life, requiring stable and healthy interpersonal skills
• An up to date working knowledge in:
• Network technology including LANs, WANs, and VPNs
• Microsoft Windows Server and RedHat Enterprise Linux operating systems
• Virtualization technologies including enterprise VMWare
• Storage technologies including enterprise SANs
• Directory solutions such as Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP
