**Compensation Range for This Position Is $50,000 - $56,000

This is a full-time HYBRID position with the weekly on-site work in Lindale, Texas.

 

The Marine Crewing Coordinator acts as the primary liaison between Marine Operations and other business functions such as People & Culture (P&C), Finance and Crew & Occupational Health to ensure that the technical departments across the fleet are staffed with experienced, qualified, and credentialed personnel.

 

This role is essential to the efforts of Marine Operations to ensure the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance are upheld by fleet-wide policies and procedures. The position requires travel to the vessels to manage relationships with on-board stakeholders, identify growth initiatives, and develop practical working knowledge of crew roles onboard.

 

How You’ll Contribute

Strategic Staffing & Talent Pipeline

  • Crew Candidate Processing: Together with P&C teams, support incoming maritime crew through their review and placement process.
  • Forward Planning: Review the staffing formation needs for each vessel with the Directors of Marine Operations to adequately plan for future field services and annual maintenance periods.
  • Liaison & Advocacy: Act as the bridge between Marine Operations and Talent Acquisition to communicate specific workforce needs and advocate for the department when volunteers are unavailable.
  • Leave & Gap Management: Review input on PTO and Leave of Absence (LOA) requests to identify and fill staffing gaps before they impact vessel operations.

    Operational & Technical Governance

  • Policy Development: Advise the Directors of Marine Operations about crewing policies and procedures to ensure they remain current, comprehensive, and effective across the fleet.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Support interdepartmental Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment (QHSE) team with technical matters related to maritime crew management like performance monitoring and certificate compliance.
  • Compliance Oversight: Maintain working knowledge of the Company Safety Management System (SMS) and business procedures, especially regarding maritime crew management.
  • Review oversight: Support Specialty Consultants & P&C in managing crew short-term evaluations to streamline extension requests

    Training & Professional Development

  • Competency Building: Collaborate with the Maritime Training Center (MTC) to recommend, coordinate, and provide necessary training for crew members.
  • Growth & Succession: Provide input on performance improvement plans and development plans for crew advancement or "growth" recommendations.
  • Certification Quality Control: Check the validity of certifications (STCW, Flag State) for current and incoming crew, ensuring all mariners are fit for duty[DS1.1][JW1.2].

    Shipboard Engagement & Relationship Management

  • On-Site Collaboration: Visit key vessel locations as needed to maintain and develop relationships with the operating team stakeholders. Work directly with stakeholders at various locations to determine the needs of upcoming field services and maintenance phases, ensuring proper workforce coverage.
  • Stakeholder Rapport: Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders like P&C, the MTC, crew members, marine crewing agencies, and crew candidates through clear, effective communication and active engagement.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Company SMS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) from four-year College or University; or four years related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
