Director of Marine Projects

Description:  

Direct the planning, execution, and documentation of marine projects in liaison with the ships' Senior Officers, Technical Superintendent, Director of Marine Operations, Director of Fleet Projects, and other concerned parties.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Review requests for modifications to ensure they're in line with current and future Company business goals and priorities.

  • Ensure modifications to Company ships are in compliance with applicable Statutory Regulations and Classification Society Rules.

  • Develop budgets for marine projects.
  • Recommend modifications to improve effectiveness and efficiency of Company ships.
  • Oversee planning of technical, accommodation, and hospital modifications to Company ships.
  • Oversee execution of technical, accommodation, and hospital modifications to Company ships.
  • Oversee documentation of technical, accommodation, and hospital modifications to Company ships.
  • As necessary, inspect machinery, equipment, or spaces; draft job specifications; and obtain bids from contractors or shipyards to perform modifications.
  • Maintain contact with contractors to ensure completion of work according to contract terms.
  • Liaise with shipyard supervisors, contractors, and Class/Statutory surveyors to ensure that repairs and modifications to Company ships are done safely, in a timely manner, and at the lowest reasonable cost.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of Company SMS; assist Safety Manager to ensure safe working practices are followed on Company ships by contractors and other parties involved in shipboard modifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, contractors, suppliers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Ability to develop and review technical drawings and specifications.

Education And Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

  • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) from four-year College or University in relevant engineering field
  • Ten years of experience in the maritime industry
  • Five years of progressive experience in ship design and/or construction
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
