$21K- $40K USD. Compensation is Commensurate upon experience and other qualifications. This may vary due to the Candidate’s location.

The Summary

This position is based within the in-country team and supports Mercy Ships activities and projects, including during the periods before the ship’s arrival, during the field service, and after the ship’s departure in the field of logistics and facilities.

How You’ll Contribute

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Coordination of logistics processes including vehicle fleet and driver management:
    • Under the supervision of the Operations Director, coordinate with Ship HR and the Purser to ensure accurate arrivals list of crew, visitors, and contractors.
    • Arrange accommodation with the hotel or team house as appropriate.
    • Oversee transportation of the crew to the hotel/team house/accommodation and to the ship
    • Take appropriate action and inform stakeholders of any issues with new arrivals.
    • Brief arrivals on quarantine requirements where relevant
    • Drive a company vehicle to the hotel, ship, airport, and in town as needed.
    • Liaise with the Crew Clinic onboard the ship and arrange for all quarantined crew to be tested before embarking.
    • Provide reports of quarantined hotel arrivals
    • Coordinate travels between various locations in the country
    • Under the supervision of the Operations Director, engage constructively with service providers in-country to advise on most appropriate mode of travel within the country.
  • Supports the responsible management and utilization of Mercy Ships facilities in the country of assignment:
    • Ensure premises, assets and communications are used effectively.
    • Support the Operations Director in overseeing facilities maintenance.
    • In coordination with the Operations Director and Admin Assistant, track available rooms and apartments in team houses to optimize the use of the spaces available for accommodation and report on inter-departmental guests periods of stay.
    • Supervise cleaners and ensure that office and team housing facilities have functional amenities and adequate supplies
  • Coordination and implementation of travel, transportation, and hotel accommodations:
    • Supervise Mercy Ships in country drivers and identify any training needs they might have and work in coordination with the ASC HR to provide the training
    • Oversee maintenance and repairs of vehicles assigned to in country operations
    • Drive the optimization of the use of vehicles ensuring that the team/end users are adequately served
    • Monitor vehicle logs and fuel replenishment cycles to identify any anomalies or optimization needs
  • Supports Operations Director and the Port Liaison in logistics, clearing, and registration processes:
    • Support the Port Liaison to optimize shipping and transport procedures.
    • Support coordination and monitor supply chain operations.
  • Chairs the in-country logistics task force, established to anticipate and respond to the needs of the country team and the ship:
    • Establish and chair periodic Logistics & Security Task Force in coordination with the Field Security Officer
    • Support the placement of orders, stock and monitor quantities of supplies and consumables needed for the office and team houses to ensure needs are met.
    • Plan and track shipments locally and internationally with a keen attention to lead time for materials, supplies and equipment needed by the in-country operations. 
    • Keep logs and records of warehouse stocks and ensure that storage conditions are adequate and optimal.
    • Prepare a monthly progress report of the activities of the Logistics & Security Task force.
    • Coordinate recruitment of local logistics staff in conjunction with ASC HR
    • Establish and maintain Mercy Ships in country Asset inventory in conjunction with ASC Finance
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of Mercy Ships activities and the ship’s capabilities and limitations
  • Must be alumni or current crew (transfer)
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in English in both written and verbal forms
  • Fluency in English and French or near fluency in French is required.
  • A full, clean international driving license is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Education And Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year. 
  • University education or advance certificate in supply chain, logistics, or project management
  • Or a high school diploma with 5+ years of work experience in the field of logistics, security, operations, or project management
  • Experience working in low-resource settings, experience in Africa is preferred
  • Experience as a trainer or facilitator of learning processes is greatly valued for this role
  • Experience in humanitarian operations is a great asset for this role
