The Opportunity

Our Education and Training program is focused on urgently expanding the core and support healthcare services workforce needed to provide safe surgical care. Although advocacy and host country relationships form a crucial part of advancing the work we do, they no longer constitute a third pillar. Instead, our direct Advocacy activities will be limited to Supporting the roll-out of the Dakar Declaration and its adoption by African states, Implementation of the recommendations of the Dakar Declaration will be driven by signatory countries. Mercy Ships takes an accompaniment approach to this, putting decisions of what is delivered in the hands of our host countries.
