**Compensation Range for This Position Is $49,000 - $54,000 depending on experience.

 

The Global Brand Senior Editor is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organizational brand voice and identity with consistency across all communication channels. They oversee the editorial process, ensuring accuracy and alignment with brand guidelines and ethical storytelling principles. They develop strategic concepts for specific content strategies and marketing concepts with targeted messaging to specific audiences. They assist in managing a team of copywriters, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality and timely content production. Additionally, they collaborate closely with various departments and key stakeholders to deliver compelling narratives that reinforce our brand values and effectively communicate the impact of Mercy Ships’ mission.

 

How You’ll Contribute

  • Responsible for original content creation, editing, and updating various types of brand-related content including blogs, social posts, video scripts, websites, marketing collateral, reports, and the brand book.
  • Oversee the editorial process to ensure alignment with brand guidelines and ethical storytelling principles.
  • Collaborate with Programs teams and other stakeholders to identify story leads and compelling narratives that support brand awareness, fundraising, and recruitment efforts and report on story leads.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity in the presentation of organizational narratives and programmatic statistics.
  • Oversee the pre-production process for copy planning to ensure intentionality and alignment with strategies defined for specific initiatives including production waves for global campaigns, fundraising, and recruiting.
  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, and leading a team of copywriters, guiding to ensure high-quality content production.
  • Responsible for training new onboard volunteer writers which may require travel to our ships.
  • Assign copy projects, edit, and provide feedback to the writers.
  • Develop timelines for content creation to ensure timely delivery across various platforms and channels.

    The Ideal Candidate

  • Expert in storytelling and the audience journey
  • Strong understanding of brand identity, voice, and messaging principles.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, an eye for detail, and experience adhering to editorial and technical style guides.
  • Strong oral and written communication with analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to identify and implement process improvements, multitask overlapping projects, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experienced in SEO best practices and skilled with the nuances of social media content creation.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously enhance Mercy Ships' content strategy.
  • Proven experience in hiring, training, and overseeing editorial teams, including staff, contract, and volunteer contributors.
  • Able to lead people and processes in a complex international environment.
  • Travel to our partnering African countries may be required to capture stories around our programmatic work including former patient interviews, partnerships, or training and education initiatives.
  • Up to ten percent travel per year.
  • Must adhere to organizational medical and travel policies.

    Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field
  • 8-10 years experience in editorial roles, focusing on brand management, leading and developing
  • editorial and marketing content creation.
  • Experience working for a non-profit is preferred.
  • Field experience in Africa, preferably on a Mercy Ships vessel a plus
