THIS ROLE WILL REQUIRE LIVING IN CHINA AS WELL AS OTHER LOCATIONS AS NEEDED.

This is a full-time remote role that requires extensive international travel. The pay range for the position is $96,000 - $101,000.

The New Ship Build IT Manager is responsible for ensuring the design and build of IT systems for the vessel are in alignment with IT enterprise

architecture guiding principles and meet business requirements while working within the prescribed timelines of the shipyard and new ship project team.

The New Ship Build IT Manager acts as a cross-functional subject matter expert (SME) in bridging the gap between ship build processes and the rest of

the IT teams.

 

How You’ll Contribute

  • Design, plan, collaborate, and build IT Ship Build Processes under the direction provided
  • Design, plan, collaborate, and build Ship Space Drawing Review process under the direction provided
  • Review all drawings of the vessel in coordination with the business units and IT SMEs across the IT organization
  • Design, plan, collaborate, and build Technical Documentation Process under the direction provided
  • Review yard deliverables and provide feedback to the ship project team
  • Work within the confines of the Architecture Review Board processes to ensure technical coordination and function between IT functions, business
  • units, and ship build project teams
  • Provide cross-functional advice and guidance to IT Function Leadership teams for functional architecture where the new ship build is concerned
  • Identify and coordinate the build or procurement of space for use as staging facility for IT systems in alignment with shipbuild needs
  • Coordinate IT Support for ship project teams in shipyard and during the sail of the vessel
  • Responsible for the daily technical work and coordination of IT project teams during the Equipping phase of the project
  • Provide advice and guidance to IT leadership around the procurement of IT solutions and services
  • Participates in the preparation of budgetary recommendations with regards to new ship project responsibilities.
  • Will be required to travel extensively in performance of duties, including working on-site as a part of the project team near the shipyard while
  • traveling to other locations as necessary

  • Experience building and designing IT systems within a maritime environment
  • Experience with project management best practices
  • An up to date overview of core IT technologies, including:
  • WAN, LAN, WLAN Technologies
  • Data Center design and layout
  • HVAC and Uninterruptable Power Design
  • Cabling maintenance, testing, and verification
  • Ship communications systems (VoIP, Automatic Telephone, PA/GA, etc.)
  • Virtual Server Environments
  • Operational Applications
  • Medical Application Connectivity Technologies
  • An ability to adjust quickly in response to re-organization, strategy or priority changes and shifting customer needs
  • Be process oriented, have an attention to detail and a strong analytical problem solving ability
  • A strong customer service mindset including attitude and approach
  • An ability to use servant leadership, strong human resource management and inter-personal skills to attract, motivate and develop an
  • effective, creative and collegial team
  • Leadership ability, flexibility, people skills a must for working with departments, leadership, and volunteers. Good time management skills

  • Ability to manage and maintain external vendor contracts, ensuring that the organisation is receiving contracted

     

    Education & Experience

  • The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience is required, preferably with at least 3 years management experience in an IT environment.
  • Experience in designing and building new architecture.
  • Experience in upgrading network infrastructure in production environments
  • Experience building and leading a matrixed, cross-functional team
  • Experience managing multiple, ongoing external vendor contracts.
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
