Mercy Ships is a global faith-based charity that uses hospital ships to bring life-changing surgeries and transformational medical training to people in some of the most challenging contexts along the African coast. For over 40 years, Mercy Ships has been delivering lasting hope and healing through safe surgical care, while working alongside partners and stakeholders to strengthen local healthcare systems in more than 55 countries. Since the inception of this dream by founders Don and Deyon Stephens in 1978, Mercy Ships has served more than 2.7 million direct beneficiaries without regard for race, gender, or religion.
This is a full-time remote role. The pay range for the position is $80,000 - $90,000 based on experience.

The Paralegal is responsible for assisting the legal team to ensure we are efficient and effective. The right person thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves finding solutions to challenging problems, is detail oriented, and can influence and navigate in a fast-moving, matrixed organization.
How You’ll Contribute
- Draft legal documents.
- Edit legal documents.
- Conduct legal research.
- Transcribe during meetings.
- Provide additional ad-hoc support to legal team.
- Maintain legal filing system.
- Intake legal questions from the clients.
- Other duties as assigned by Legal Counsel.
The Ideal Candidate

- Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and participate in departmental devotions and ISC and Global Gatherings.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with discretion and integrity.
- Ability to gather and analyze information and to report effectively both verbally and in writing as required.
- Ability to manage multiple important tasks and projects at the same time; ability to effectively prioritize work.
- Detail Oriented.
- Supportive of Mercy Ships mission and vision, and committed to its core values.
- Understand and apply servant leadership, work collaboratively with integrity and demonstrate accountability.
Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree required in relevant field; and 6+ years’ experience as a paralegal or legal secretary or equivalent combination of education and experience. Paralegal license a plus.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of use and operation of the organization’s information management technology applications.
- Experience working in multi-cultural environments, often in very challenging situations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
