**This is a FULL-TIME HYBRID opportunity located in Lindale, Texas.

Mercy Ships is seeking a Senior Accountant who is responsible for serving as a team leader in the finance department and ensuring the department creates accurate and timely financial records for the organization.

Analyzes accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards defined within the department.
Works with the Controller and Assistant Controller on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
Reviews records of accounts to ensure accuracy.
Develops systems for the maintenance of financial records, making use of current technologies.
Assists in the creation and maintenance of relevant accounting policies, procedures and instructions.
Other duties as assigned

The senior accountant may or may not have direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for staff accountants and accounting clerks.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to exercise sound judgement and made decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
    Demonstrates knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
    Strong MS Office with proficiency in Excel.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with all levels throughout the organization globally.
    Maintain confidentiality.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent number of years of experience plus five years of progressive accounting experience.
    Non-Profit and international accounting experience a plus
    Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
