Works in conjunction with Mercy Ships locations and IT to take complex AV systems from inception to completion and acceptance. The systems include, conference rooms, auditoriums, sound and projection systems, Video Conferencing (VTC) etc. The AV Systems Engineer will design video, audio communications systems. The design process includes equipment and technology research and coordination with vendors.  The AV Systems Engineer will also assist with final system testing and end user training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Overall AV System responsibility.
  • Develop designs that meet customer functional and budgetary requirements for International Support Center (ISC), Africa Mercy (AFM) and Global Mercy (GLM).
  • Generate functional and connection-level drawings for video, audio, control, and communications subsystems.
  • Develop cabinet layouts, equipment rack elevations and layouts, etc.
  • Develop detailed equipment lists and budgets.
  • Prepare and maintain drawings and documentation of all AV and related systems.
  • Provide equipment and technology research and coordination with vendors.
  • Selection and qualification of equipment and software required for custom integration solutions.
  • Provide continuous engineering support throughout a project, from inception through implementation.
  • Support the systems installation and equipment configuration, customer training and ongoing system’s service.
  • ISC (International Support Center Operations) support.
  • Manage, coordinate and execute AV needs such as community meetings, web-based meetings and offsite gatherings.
  • Direct, manage and execute global community gatherings from ISC to global participants.
  • Responsible for maintaining all equipment in ISC meeting and conference rooms.
  • Provide Tier II support.
  • Support AV technicians on the vessels with problem solving and event planning and troubleshooting.
  • Provide support to Service Desk personnel.
  • 25% travel to Mercy Ships locations domestic and international as appropriate.
  • Eligible to travel based on Mercy Ships policies and procedures, government entities, and local health requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Requirements)

  • Ability to successfully complete jobs from design through commissioning.
  • Knowledge with engineering conference rooms, Webcasting, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Streaming Video systems.
  • Able to contribute to community life, requiring stable and healthy interpersonal skills.
  • Use of AutoCAD or similar diagrammatic software tools desirable.
  • Must have solid written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of network protocols desirable.
  • Experience specifying projectors screens and room design.
  • Experience specifying and configuring sound reinforcement systems.
  • Familiarity with audio video teleconference equipment.

Education and Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and/or experience required.

  • Experience in telecommunications preferred.
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year. 
  • Q-sys Level 1 & 2 preferred but necessary.
  • Avixa preferred, but not required.
  • Work experience - 2-5 years of on hands AV integration, design or support.
