National Media Relations Director
Summary:  Responsible for planning and executing media relations initiatives including national media outreach, and message creation and distribution in a variety of formats.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Develop strategic communications plan for USA market
  • Cultivate relationships with national media outlets to drive visibility of the brand.
  • Ideate, develop and implement creative methods to seize targeted opportunities.
  • Research, develop and execute media placement.
  • Develop and pitch news and stories to the media.
  • Draft press releases, briefings, talking points, and other written content.
  • Utilize tools for research to help inform media placement decisions.
  • Plan and coordinate media events and manage media relations activities.
  • Track and analyze media metrics.
  • Create and maintain media contact lists.
  • Collaborate with national offices around the world.
  • Work with agency partners and manage a public relations coordinator.
  • Coordinate planning and messaging with social media teams to ensure consistency.
  • Other duties as assigned

    Education and Experience

    The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field 
  • 7 years’ experience in media relations in a corporate setting
  • National media pitching experience preferred
  • Experience with using industry tools to build media lists
  • Experience using social media platforms as a media relations tool
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
