Development Projects and Events Manager

Description:  
  • Under the direction of the VP, manage and oversee key signature events and strategic development projects for all areas of Resource Development (Major Donors, Grants and Foundations, Corporate Development)
  • Maximize project management process inclusive of communication related to signature events and projects with global offices as a part of the strategic plan.
  • Facilitate annual strategic planning for all Major Donor/Corporate events and development initiatives, including Founder's Weekend, Corporate Partnership Events, signature funding events and other donor-centric fundraising projects. Develop achievable revenue goals in the signature events and projects sector.
  • Direct and inspire the design of key development documentation to be utilized by the department, including specific funding requests, grant proposals, and sponsorship packages to present to individuals, corporations, and other funding entities.
  • Manage a portfolio of hand-selected foundations and provide insight into the Grants and Foundations strategic program development plan, with an emphasis on organizational structure and future planning. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for strategic event development plans and managing project documentation, presentations, reports, evaluation, and ROI to share with organizational and executive leadership members.
  • Drive project management action plans, project deliverables, timelines, budgets for all development projects and signature events to ensure quality and timely execution.
  • Lead communication and work streams between Resource Development and partner organizations and consultants when executing development events and signature projects.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal business units including marketing, global brand, fund management, national offices, and other relevant departments.
  • Develop ongoing relationships based on pre-identified prospects and donor accounts with external audiences, including, but not limited to, strategic corporate alliances, foundations, healthcare professionals, universities, and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Fund Management to communicate specific program fundraising goals, outcomes, budgets, and reporting structures, with the goal of maintaining consistent donor-organization relationship management.
  • Creatively customizes materials and presentations for external stakeholders covering program strategy and metrics. Present program information and metrics to relevant stakeholders when deemed necessary at development events.

  • Advanced understanding of Mercy Ships healthcare delivery system including the model, the message, the methods, and the metrics by which its mission is accomplished.
  • In-depth understanding of and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels within the development and governance structure of Mercy Ships.
  • Personal and professional commitment to the special purpose, mission and programs of Mercy Ships.
  • A personal bearing and philosophy that are an extension and representation of the commitment of the Mercy Ships Board of Directors, Founder/President, staff, donors, and volunteers.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Business/Marketing/Communication or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, or special events.
  • Ability to craft business documentation with precision and quality, bringing together both qualitative and creative concepts.
  • Extensive experience in nonprofit sector, with a demonstrated ability to drive forward progress and foster relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, an aptitude for logical thinking, with a commitment to professional ethics.
  • Keen ability to synthesize material from multiple sources into coherent and accurate project plans, management initiatives, funding documentation, and communications assets.
  • Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software, with high level of experience in PowerPoint and Excel, Donor Perfect, and other online CRM systems.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 20% of the time for event management based on organizational guidelines for travel safety. International travel may be required based on business need.

  • Ability to adhere to established budgeting and fiscal procedures and practices.
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
