Provide support and clinician oversight to the applicant medical evaluation process and Crew Clinics on the ships

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)

Applicant Medical Evaluations

  • Provide guidance and support to Medical Review Facilitator; insuring we are screening our volunteer applicants for service according to our standards
  • Responsible for approving any waivers of medical guidelines for service or exceptions involving medical requirements for incoming crew
  • Work with the Medical Review Facilitator to write up and approve medical contracts for applicants
  • Responsible for approving medical contracts for crew
  • Responsible to track medical contracts and ensure conditions are followed up and documented
  • Provide routine quality audits for both the Medical Review Facilitator and Crew Clinics procedures
  • Keep up to date with global health trends that may affect crew and make recommendations to the ICMO as needed.

Crew Clinic Support

  • Responsible for approving medical contracts for crew
  • Responsible to track medical contracts and ensure conditions are followed up and documented
  • Provide support and clinical guidance to Crew Clinics and Crew Physician as needed
  • Assist with difficult cases involving crew by providing external consult and or research

Other

  • Provide on board coverage in case of Crew Physician PTO or shortage
  • Maintain current knowledge of Mercy Ships & Global Medical policies and procedures in regards to health and medical requirements.
  • Follow up on all email and phone inquiries
  • Other duties as assigned

    • Strong computer skills required with high proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Capacity to learn custom systems and applications.

    • Must be self-motivated and thorough.

Education And Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

  • M.D. or D.O. with current unrestricted license or recognized medical qualification in country of origin
  • 2 years post-graduate clinical experience required with specialization in General Practice, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine (Emergency Medicine physicians may be considered based on experience and practice pattern).

  • Mercy Ships experience preferred.

  • Successful completion of Basic Training in accordance with STCW A-VI/1-1 to 1-4 as required per Maritime Law.

  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training may be required.
