Description:  

The Procurement Director is responsible for ensuring the cost-effectiveness of the Purchasing process across the organization. This involves setting purchasing policies, managing purchasing staffs, managing RFP project priorities, bid analysis, training and proper documentation.    

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty.

  • Direct the MSO Procurement operations and implement strategic and continuous improvement activities that develop processes that are efficient, effective, and compliant with applicable laws and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to the on-going procurement growth and implementation of new structured policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with all departments supporting their procurement needs.
  • Ensure proper alignment and accountability with each department being supported.
  • Ensure proper stakeholders are engaged at the steering committee level.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Mercy Ships operational needs and priorities so agreements can be designed to fit our needs and business model.
  • Negotiate favorable relationships that meet Mercy Ships needs and grows our relationships with the vendor community.
  • Be the primary contact for the organization’s procurement related questions.
  • Effectively leverage our global supply structure to deliver the best delivered solution.
  • Manage a collaborative relationship with accounting to ensure our processes and actions fit their operational needs.
  • Assess and mange the progress and compliance of all managers and their teams to the Procurement standards set for by the organization
  • Work closely with the European Distribution Center (EDC) Director to in sure the EDC’s staff are aligned with our policies and procedures.
  • Attend various meetings, conventions or on-site visits as required to develop the supply base for the requirements.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook while willing to learn the procurement database.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • May require occasional domestic and international travel.

Education And Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

 

  • 10 years Indirect Procurement experience, 5 years management level
  • Clear demonstration of knowledge conducting RFP, developing agreements, and leading teams using these tools
  • Director level experience preferred.
  • Working with diverse categories preferred
  • Experience working with people and organizational systems.
  • BS/BA in related discipline preferred.
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year
