Biomedical Technician II
Summary:  
Description:  
Support development, maintenance and procurement activities specifically for equipment and technical supplies including but not limited to medical, dental, surgical and off ship programs.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Provide support for repair, installation, maintenance, calibration, and inspection of complex medical equipment, instrumentation and systems.
  • Procure needed Program technical equipment while engaging and cultivating long term relationships with companies and individuals to sustain needs.
  • Provide technical consultation in areas where medical, dental or surgical equipment is used as it relates to requirements and specifications.
  • Review outcome of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations to Program department staff concerning improvements and replacement strategy.
  • Maintain accurate local (IOC) inventory, tracking both the addition and the deactivation of clinical equipment. Use of AIMS Biomedical Equipment Tracking Software a plus.
  • Provide temporary role substitution for Biomedical Technicians on our ships during PTO or other absentee periods as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Requirements)

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to identify/specify various medical and dental equipment.  Identify and research technical data on items requiring interface with instrumentation or systems for proper use.  Ability to outline specific needs for equipment based on treatment and hospital needs.
  • Ability to manage others to meet project goals and respond to urgent demands from clinical users as it relates to defective equipment during use.
  • Proficiency in phone skills and successful customer service attributes required to engage individual/companies to partner with the ministry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and graphics programs.
  • Proficiency in using the Internet as a tool for locating sources for equipment and parts.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and document work procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various departments.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • National and international travel will be required – must have a valid passport, visas, and immunizations.

Education And Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years of hospital experience as a biomedical technician and/or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
